F.H. DeMars Images

Welcome to our obsession! This site is definitely a work in progress. My name is Peg Giles. My husband, Bob, and I have just begun scanning the images from 5,000 glass plate negatives that belonged to my grandfather, Frank H. DeMars. In the early 1900s Frank DeMars traveled around Western Massachusetts & Northwestern Connecticut (mostly by horse and buggy) recording rural life, mills and factories on the rivers, small towns and the people who lived in them. When he opened an art store in Winsted, CT he bought glass plate negatives from several other photographers. Once you are in the galleries, to view the pictures full-screen, go to the slide show icon on the right. This site will eventually include images from approximately 50 different towns.
